8 Stephen King Characters Who Deserve Their Own Book
7. Abagail Freemantle
A woman with thirty-two grandchildren, ninety-one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren is surely someone with an interesting story to tell. Abagail Freemantle (commonly referred to as Mother Abagail) is one of many, many characters to appear in the in The Stand, but she earns a place on this list due to her uncanny ability to outlive so many people around her, including all of those mentioned offspring and her three former husbands. Abagail's story is well fleshed out and has a fitting, bitter-sweet conclusion. Yet the world of The Stand is so rich and has so much potential for back story that it would be very interesting to see a prequel. Focusing on Mother Abagail would be a great way to introduce readers to the world of The Stand before The Plague, as well of detailing the state of society as it begin to take over. That's not to mention all of the tragic characters we'd meet, given how Abagail's entire family succumbs.
