8 Things That Would Happen If An Asteroid Hit Earth

2. Life After Impact

So, it's generally thought that it took the dinosaurs a while to completely die out after the impact, but then again dinosaurs didn't have an industrial revolution. Plants and animals (and dinosaurs) don't have access to the shelters, submarines, food preservation, electricity, breathing equipment or cable TV (the apocalypse can get dull).

With the benefit of months or even years of warning, surviving the apocalypse might be possible. It might not even be as harrowing as the movies suggest.

Society might not be the same, we might move inside or even underground. We could use our seed stores to continue to grow food, we could push forwards with in vitro meat production.

That said, the only reason humans got into the position we are today, is because last time the dominant species were wiped out, leaving niches for the surviving birds, reptiles and mammals to fill.

Perhaps, after millions of years, a new dominant species will have emerged and a race of super-intelligent bird-people will have their own space program and bird-archaeologists to dig up the remains of the human race.
