Proper cleaning is a good way to keep yourself all lovely and non-diseasey, but it is also a minefield in itself. Lots of the products under your sink are strong, toxic and do not play nicely with one another. This is particularly true of two of the most common cleaning chemicals: Bleach and ammonia. Bleach is great for shifting that mould that has taken up residence in your shower, but when it is mixed with products that contain ammonia, the pair produce a toxic gas called chloramine vapour. This is particularly dangerous in an enclosed environment like, say, a shower cubicle or a walk-in freezer. Breathing this vapour in can corrode the airways causing swelling so extreme that it can block them and you may need a trip to the hospital where a friendly doctor will stick a hole through the front of your neck for you to breath through.
