2. She's Inclusive
Stoya isn't just working to promote the rights of women in the porn industry. She is also vocal about the rights of sex workers generally and their need to be heard on issues regarding their careers. When Amnesty International announced a plan to change their policy and recommend the decriminalisation of sex work, celebrities such as Lena Dunham and Meryl Streep came out against the move. People within the industry were less than pleased with their weighing in and on 26 July Stoya tweeted the most mic-dropping summary of the whole furore- "Oh, you played a prostitute in a movie? I played a nurse in a porno. Does that qualify me to talk about working conditions in hospitals?". Stoya is also interested in diversity in porn. Together with genderqueer adult performer Jiz Lee, she's created Graphic Depictions, a video starring Lee and Lily LaBeau, available on TRENCHCOATx. In working with and promoting non-conventional sex workers, Stoya is contributing to a more inclusive porn landscape.
