9 "Guaranteed" Visions Of The Future That Will Make Us All Look Stupid
3. 3D Printed Clothes
3D printing might well be a revolutionary technology. It could be used to change the way we do medicine, it could even reawaken a kind of cottage industry, taking us away from the age of "Made in China" mass production. 3D printing is undoubtedly making waves, when it comes to 3D printed fashion, is no one else forcefully reminded of those cringey 1960s "fashion of the future" shows in which everybody is wrapped in tin foil with aerials sticking out of their hats?
Much like the "wearables for everyone!" attitude, people are currently so excited by 3D printing that, in addition to researching its uses in areas such as, say, organ synthesis, people are currently flinging the technology at everything from food to fashion and seeing what sticks.
Granted, forecasting what won't be fashionable in the future is as much of a guessing game as guessing what will, but in the history of people confidently predicting that we're just 50 years away from shiny plastic clothes and metal catsuits, we've never really felt the need to abandon cosy jumpers and clothes made from actual fabric.
The Exception: The technology advances far enough to create clothes that don't feel like wearing a chain link fence. Perhaps weaving fabrics together ... like, you know, a loom.
