9 Acts Of Kindness From Total Strangers That Will Melt Your Heart

9. James Harrison The Blood Donor

Whilst James Harrison may not be a name that you recognise or have even heard of, this is a man who has saved the lives of over two million children. That's right, over two million and counting. Mr Harrison is a blood donor from Australia and has been nicknamed 'the man with the Golden Arm' because of the rare and unusual composition of his blood. James' blood contains an antibody called Rho(D) Immune Globulin. This antibody is needed for women who suffer from Rhesus Disease which is a severe form of anemia. When a woman is pregnant, the disease can destroy the baby's blood cells which can lead to major complications and the fatality of the baby. Harrison has been donating blood since he turned 18 years old and this decision was brought upon by an accident that he suffered as a teenager. When he was thirteen, James had major chest surgery where he needed almost three and a half gallons of donated blood in order to save his life. After discovering that his life was saved thanks to these anonymous blood donors, he vowed that he would donate as soon as he reached the legal age - which was eighteen back then. The blood plasma donor has made over 1,000 donations and has literally saved millions of lives.
