5. Robot Sex

You can't have a piece on sexnology without addressing the big, robotic elephant in the room. People have been predicting sex robots for as long as we've been predicting "normal" robots. We have now even reached the point at which people purchasing certain emotional robots have to sign a contract agreeing not to have sex with it - which definitely begins to raise questions about "robot rights" if nothing else. The idea of a sex robot has been pretty steady over the years.

You essentially take an existing sex toy and attach it to a human-shaped lump of silicone that may-or-may-not-be the stuff of uncanny valley nightmares. Whilst it's pretty likely that these vaguely creepy sex dolls might one day become a norm, with plenty of people predicting that we'll all be bonking robots in the next decade or so (a 2014 survey said that around 17% of the population would already be totally cool with robo-sex), people are also beginning to think about ways that we could make them less physically lifelike, more emotionally intelligent and even, shock horror, market them to women.
