In a move that smacks just a little bit too much of a sci-fi future, researchers at the German University in Cairo have used advances in nanotechnology to create robots that mimic real human cells. These tiny robots, dubbed magnetosperm, currently measure in at around 1 micron and use magnetic propulsion to move themselves around the human body.

The scientists say that they could be used for everything from in vitro fertilisation to cleaning clogged arteries, all using a magnet with less strength than one you'd use on your fridge. This could be yet another way for people in the future to do away with the whole messy business of sex and babies, and help those with fertility problems realise their desires for a family.
