7. Where Do Farts Go?

Whether you're in a crowded elevator, on a date, or at a dinner with the in-laws, everybody has held a fart in before. This means that we'll all be aware of the sensation of that fart "going away" - but where does it go?

The answer is surprising. Although much of the fart's bulk just goes back up the digestive tract to be re-released at a later date, some of that fart will actually pass through the wall of the intestine and into the bloodstream.

Where does this absorbed gas end up, I hear you cry? Why, it comes out in your breath.

So, if your girlfriend/boyfriend/dog/hamster never seems to fart, just bear in mind that they're probably just breathing it all over your instead.

Holding it in has all kinds of adverse effects besides stinky fart breath, with bloating, pain and constipation on the cards as a reward for your good manners. It's really just better to let it fly and blame it on the dog or a small child.
