9 Of Life's Most Important Questions Answered By Science
2. What Does Human Taste Like?
Obviously, it's a bit tricky to taste test human flesh in our day to day lives, but we can get a rough idea of its flavour from the people who have sampled it in the past.
Reports from cannibals throughout history have ranged from "like chicken" to a gamey goaty flavour. Perhaps one of the most famous incidences of cannibalism was the time Armin Meiwes posted a classified ad on the internet, looking for a well-built 18- to 30-year-old to be slaughtered and then consumed.
Amazingly, the ad reportedly received over 200 responses. Meiwes' original choice backed out of the deal after their first meeting, but he eventually found a 41-year-old man who agreed to be eaten. After the pair had sex and both consumed the man's penis, Meiwes killed him and cooked the rest of him up with princess croquettes and brussels sprouts with a green pepper sauce.
He described the flavour to be like pork, but stronger and more bitter. It can't have been that good, as princess croquettes and brussels sprouts with a green pepper sauce is now a vegetarian.
Alternatively, we could take the judgement of a food analysis robot, who identified a reporter's hand as "prosciutto".
