9 People Who Abused Drugs In Nazi Germany
5. Dr. Theodor Morrell
Theodor Morrell was Hitler’s personal doctor. He also treated many other high-ranking Nazi officials. Like the other doctors on this list, he developed a drug habit, though it is unknown exactly what he took.
He would make his assistant, Dr. Weber, travel from Berlin to the Berghof, just to give him injections of his preferred substances. He once wrote that Weber was “the best at giving injections and the only one guaranteed to find my veins.” Collapsed veins are a symptom of severe drug abuse.
He had severe health issues and side-effects later in his life, as a result of this drug abuse. On the 16 April 1945, when attempting to treat Hitler, Morrell experienced shaking hands, before passing out. Later that year, after Germany was defeated, he was captured by American soldiers. Whilst incarcerated for interrogation, Morrell experienced paranoid episodes, and his speech was often incoherent.
