9 Real-Life Creatures That Are Definitely Pokémon

1. Barreleye

The barreleye, also sometimes called the spook fish, is pretty easy to pick out in a line up, what with its head being all transparent.

It is almost certainly one of the weirder things down there in the depths of the ocean, which is saying something given all the strange creatures that lurk there.

The two green blobs inside its weird head-tank are actually its eyes, pointing straight upwards and tinted green in order to filter out ambient light and help it spot bioluminescent critters. They're actually tubular, as opposed to spherical, and act like binoculars, allowing the barreleye to see further away.

It is thought that this little guy actually steals most of its food from the tentacles of jellyfish. Now, getting a stingy jellyfish tentacle in your giant, upward-facing eye is probably not a lot of fun, which has lead scientists to conclude that this is the purpose of its bizarre head - to protect the eyes like a kind of natural windshield.

Oh, and those things that look like eyes on the front of its head. They're nostrils.
