8. Parallel Universes: Many Worlds - Minute Physics

Parallel universes are a pretty common trope in science fiction, but there are some real, proper scientists out there who think that they could well fall into the category of science fact.

One of the biggest problems in quantum mechanics is just how particles can go from being in multiple states at once, before "deciding" on a single state. One of the solutions to this is the Many Worlds Interpretation, which postulates that the particle isn't deciding at all, but its timeline is branching off into all possible outcomes, only one of which we can observe.

This isn't just a case of "in another universe there's a version of me, but I'm actually Beyonce" (although, with infinite possibilities in infinite universe, there is), but these universes are supposedly created by events on the subatomic level, that is, every interaction every particle has generates new parallel timelines, creating a truly inconceivable number of parallel worlds.
