9 Things You Didn't Know About LEGO
4. You Can Create Your Own LEGO Set
Although themed LEGO sets are by far the company's most popular, and have been since it secured the Star Wars licence in 1999, your building ambitions aren't limited by what's in the box.
Lego lets customers compile their own sets via a service it runs online and at its stores. Pick A Brick is your port of call for classic pieces, and since you can order up to 999 parts, this isn't just about replacing the ones lost down the back of the sofa.
The Lego Group previously hosted a service called LEGO Digital Designer on its website, which allowed fans to create digital LEGO content and order a physical packaged set based on their design.
The delivery service was shuttered in 2011 when the Lego Group declared that it was failing to "meet quality expectations". You can still use the web application to map out models and print custom instructions for them, though.
