America's 10 Scariest Abandoned Asylums & Hospitals

2. Metropolitan State Hospital - Waltham, Massachusetts

Opened in 1927 as a state of the art facility, which also included the Graebler Children's Center. The hospital is most notorious for the 1978 murder of patient Anne Marie Davee by fellow patient Melvin W Wilson. Davee decided to go for a walk one day, but never came back. Wilson kept some of his victim's teeth, clothing and possibly the murder weapon. Staff discovered this two months after Davee disappeared, but not much was done about it until two years later, when authorities were investigating allegation of neglect. Wilson took police to the gravesite where he had buried Davee's body after dismembering it. Some sources claim that the body was in fact buried across three gravesites. The hospital was closed in 1992 and demolished in 2007. It also had a unit for juveniles with mental health problems, the Graebler Children's Center.
