Bridget Jones: 5 Reasons Helen Fielding Was Right To Kill Off Mr. Darcy In New Book

4. Colin Firth Reportedly Said No More Darcy

Firth From what I remember, Colin Firth said, after the release of Age of Reason, that he didn't want to be Darcy again. I could be wrong, maybe I'm being cynical, and I don't know this as fact, but....there is a high probability that, Helen Fielding, while negotiating a book deal to do Bridget Jones #3, may also have been in talks to do a movie sequel with screenwriting options! And, if I'm writing a book, that I know is going to be made into a film, and know that my leading man was not interested in reprising his role - would I keep Darcy alive, knowing it would have to be re-cast, knowing no real fan would be happy with a fake, stand-in Darcy? Or, would it be wiser to kill him off and introduce a younger, hotter, new man for her to chase? But, I hate the whole cougar thing and I don't want her to become someone to laugh at, not with; she deserves better.
