Every Stephen King Novel Ranked Worst To Best

24. Doctor Sleep

Stephen King in It: Chapter Two
Scribner

The much-anticipated sequel to King's classic The Shining, Doctor Sleep has two issues: It takes a while to get going, and the villains (the True Knot, who feed off the powers of kids with the Shining) aren't as strong as they should have been.

But despite these slip-ups, Doctor Sleep remains one of King's most satisfying tales, building on the story of an adult Danny Torrance and creating a novel with enough atmosphere and grand themes to rival the author's early work. It was never going to live up to The Shining, but it gave it a hell of a good go.
