Before Fifty Shades Of Grey: 10 Classic Works Of Erotic Literature

9. Vox - Nicholson Baker

41d5hxynkfl Monica Lewinsky is said to have given a copy of this 1992 novel to Bill Clinton. And it was a New York Times Best Seller. Basically, a young man and a young woman - Jim and Abby -are talking on a paid chat phone line and they talk about sex, sex, sex and more sex. And that's about it. You will learn entertaining new words for body parts and sexual acts and you might find yourself getting turned on. Jim has a fetish for female masturbation and Abby is turned on by historical monuments. It is snippets of character nuancing like this which makes the book so darn readable. Baker doesn't leave much to the imagination in this book, but it is saved from becoming outright pornography by the details he gives to the prose - the awkward silences and pauses, the initial embarrassment of Abby and Jim sharing sexual fantasies. Some people hate the book and think all of the detail slows it down, but if you are anyway into erotica, you have to get this book because it does a good job of giving you your jollies.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
