Harry Potter: 10 Character Names You Didn't Realise Were Huge Clues

A character omitted from the films entirely, Ludovic ‘Ludo’ Bagman was the Head of Magical Games and Sports and joined Barty Crouch Snr in heading the Triwizard Tournament.

A contrasting figure to his straight-laced partner, Ludo was a gone-to-seed Quidditch player who loved his job, pushed the boundaries of professionalism and loved to gamble on the outcomes. He was something of an idol for the mischievous Weasley twins Fred and George.

Named after a famous game, which in itself comes from the Latin literally meaning ‘I play’ and with a surname that in both English and American slang means someone who either gambles or transports money for criminals, the government official in charge of magical games is very likely to have had parents who saw the Naming Seer.
