Maxwell’s Voted Best American Restaurant in London!

Maxwell€™s beat off very stiff competition to claim the gold. They were locked in an intense neck-and-neck race with The Diner, but thanks to a big push on Saturday they moved ahead to pip them at the post.

I have no doubt that The Diner€™s burgers and shakes which I believe to be the best you will get in London had a great deal to do with their support which had them jump out to a huge lead at the end of the first week. Their interesting, charming and incomparably friendly staff add that all important touch to give you the closest I have come to experiencing the dining experience I knew when I was in the States. But Maxwell€™s, who I declared served the best cocktails of all the restaurants I visited, came roaring back to overtake their rivals and seal the win. The only restaurant to receive a 5 star rating from yours truly - Bodean€™s €“ claimed the bronze with a solid share of the votes, but obviously the allure of their mouth-watering Beef Ribs and succulent burnt ends, which are unlike anything else you will get anywhere were just not enough to secure the prize. The best bar you€™ll find in or outside a steak house if you€™re looking for Yankee liqueur, sport or smoked meats, Bodean€™s, I salute you.

Maxwell€™s were the first restaurant that I visited, and that night holds nothing but great memories for me. Their chicken wings were crispy, succulent and covered in a rich and smoky and slightly sweet barbecue sauce. Their steak succulent, their burger substantial and their ribs tender. Their sharer Sundae drew stares from fellow diners, and indeed drew our evening to a gut-busting close of brownie, ice cream and fudge.

Most of all I remember the staff; knowledgeable, attentive, friendly and passionate about what they do. As my fellow diner that evening remarked, €œyou might think that a restaurant so close to a tourist trap would be really expensive and serve poor food, but everything here is amazing!€ I concur completely.

A huge thanks to all the other seven restaurants that took part: The Blues Kitchen and their out-of-this-world Padron Peppers; Big Easy and their gigantic, fiery Voodoo Prawns; Christopher€™s Grill who served me the best steak I have ever eaten; Adam€™s Rib for their taste-bud tingling Cajun ribs; Sticky Fingers and their delightful and indulgent tableside campfire marshmallows with chocolate fondue; The Chicago Rib shack whose Onion Loaf is top of the list of things to eat before you die if you love onions; and Red Dog Saloon who do the best pork ribs this side of the water.

And a special thanks to all who voted and chimed in with comments and opinions. Your support was gratefully received. If you have a suggestion of which top 10 we should do next, please don€™t hesitate to pitch your suggestion below.

Once more, massive congratulations to Maxwell€™s, who can now claim to be The Best American Restaurant in London, according to Whatculture.com!
