Netflix "Just For Kids" Now Available

The service is available to all current and new subscribers, providing an unlimited “experience designed for children 12 and under.”

Netflix experience. Mum and Dad get the €˜grown up€™ section, whilst little Timmy can have his €˜own€™ Netflix page. The child-friendly selection of TV programmes and films can be navigated via €˜character€™ selection (Sonic, Barney, etc) or by simple to understand genres (superheroes, dinosaurs, etc). This organizational service is a nice touch, but will likely come under scrutiny from the odd cantankerous 10-year-old who declares that €˜dinosaurs€™ is not a genre. Such children are of course in need to a life. There are a number of titles already available in the €œjust for kids€ section, and these include; Bridge To Terabithia, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Bratz: The Movie, Pingu and Heidi. Over time this list will grow, but fear not, the standard recommendation feature will be present for those who struggle with choice. Is this a new chapter in the €˜streaming wars€™ or are Netflix clutching at straws to be €˜different€™? Only time will tell; but my immediate thoughts are that this could be a definite sweetener for parents.

Part critic-part film maker, I have been living and breathing film ever since seeing 'Superman' at the tender age of five. Never one to mince my words, I believe in the honest and emotional reaction to film, rather than being arty or self important just for cred. Despite this, you will always hear me say the same thing - "its all opinion, so watch it and make your own." Follow me @iamBradWilliams
