New Year's Day 2013: 10 Bizarre New Year's Celebrations

1. Chilling With The Dead - Chile

While others are getting wasted and trying to murder each other with household appliances, things are a little more low key - if more inherently bizarre - in Chile, specifically the city of Talca, where it's tradition to take part in a mass on New Year's Eve. Though this isn't particularly strange in of itself, it's what follows that weirds us out; at the end of the mass, the participants then venture to the graveyard where their loved ones are interred, get out a deck chair, and see in the New Year with the supposed spirit of the deceased. Granted, you're going to need a special constitution for this one, to have a firm spiritual belief and also not to get freaking creeped out by sitting in a graveyard at midnight, like most people would. What's certain is that mixing this one with alcohol just sounds like a terrible idea. Which bizarre New Year's Eve celebration is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.
