Ranking The Universal Studios Hollywood Rides - From Worst To Best
6. Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
Opening in 2014, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem gives guests the opportunity to be transformed into one of Gru's Minions.
This is a 3D HD Motion simulator rides that takes you on a mayhem filled journey into Gru's Laboratory. Here you will be changed into a Minion and trained by the Girls. Unfortunately, it doesn't go to plan.
If you are a lover of Minions and Despicable Me you will really enjoy this ride. Universal have constructed not just Gru's house but his neighbourhood and the queue itself is pretty fun.
The 3D HD is very clear, even wearing your glasses you don't get the usual foggy effect that typically comes with any 3D experience.
As it is a simulator, you don't get the impressive ride vehicles that you get with Transformers. As you are essentially in a room with audience members, this is a little distracting. It's hard to imagine that you have transformed into a Minion when you can see your fellow riders around you.
The reason why this ride ranks higher than Transformers is the pre-show queue. We used Front of the Line Passes and often this can mean that you skip some of the funner elements of the queue.
The pre-show areas are pretty fun. The first is Gru's living area where you meet his daughters and pick up your 3D glasses. There's lots of things to see in this room, and has been meticulously recreated from the movie.
The second area is that of Gru's Lab. Here you learn about the process that Gru will use to transform you into a Minion. Just watch out for the fart gun.
After the ride, you exit into a dance party, where you can celebrate with a Minion.
Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is a good family ride, even though you have to be a fan of the films to truly love this attraction.
