Ah, the cinema. Long the dark sacred space for loners. It's perfect. If you don't choose a new release film or go on a weekend, there's just this giant room where you can sit and absorb entertainment and NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO TALK. Genius, really. Of all the wonderful London cinemas, it's the Genesis (in Whitechapel) and the Prince Charles (in Soho) that provide the best respite from the outside world. The Genesis is an unbelievably affordable cinema which shows new releases and classics and has a luxury screening room (Studio 5) for ultimate lounging capabilities. The Prince Charles is an institution, popular for its all night slumber party events and singalongs, but also just a wonderful place to lose an afternoon watching an old film. Load up on popcorn (or, at the Genesis, some bakery treats) and settle in for some uninterrupted alone time. What are your favourite places to be alone in London? Let us know in the comments below.
Brydie is an Australian writer and performer living in London and she complains exactly the same amount about the weather as every other Australian living in London. Yes, that is her natural lip colour, no, she will not be taking any further questions at this time.
