Nickolai Alexandrovich Romanov - better known simply as Nicholas II in the english speaking world - was the last emperor of Imperial Russia. He was born in 1868 and ascended to the throne in 1894 after the death of his father. Nicholas II holds the distinction of being the last emperor of Russia before the Bolshevik Revolution ousted him and his family in 1918. At the beginning of his reign, Imperial Russia was one of the worlds foremost powers, but by the end it was an impoverished, socially unstable state.
He was executed by firing squad, and his death signified the end of Imperial Russia and the beginning of the Soviet Union. His royal fortune was, at its peak, valued at £176.33 billion adjusted for inflation.
