Zodiac Case: Every Suspect That Was Seriously Considered
8. Louis Joseph Myers
Every few years, someone comes forward with the suggestion that their, father, grandfather, milkman etc was actually the Zodiac Killer. In 2014, one Randy Kennedy threw a new name into the mix: his best friend, Louis Joseph Myers.
The circumstantial evidence against Myers is interesting. He attended the same schools as two of the victims, was a colleague of another at a restaurant, and was stationed abroad in the army from 1971 to 1973 - which coincides with a break in the Zodiac letters. Kennedy's claims regarding his friend also provided a motive behind the murders: a nasty break up left him bitter about happy couples, so they became his main targets.
It should be remembered, however, that there is no hard evidence tying Myers to the crimes beyond this. His age would put him at 17 years old at the time of the first murder, and police have since said that they find it unlikely that a teenager could be responsible for the crimes of the Zodiac. Regardless of the validity of Kennedy's claims, they come too late: Myers passed away in 2002, allegedly swearing his friend to secrecy so that his identity as the Zodiac Killer could remain hidden.
