10 Best Premier League Players Right Now
2. David De Gea
If importance to your team was the sole decider in this list, then David de Gea would undoubtedly be number one.
Signed from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for what was a British record fee for a keeper, £17.8million, de Gea suffered a shaky first season between the sticks at Manchester United, causing some of their own fans to give up on him.
Nowadays, you will be hard pressed to find a United fan that doesn't insist that he's the best goalkeeper in the world, and with good reason. It's often argued that de Gea has been the only world class talent in the United squad over the last couple of years. Whilst signings such as Di Maria and Depay flopped, de Gea has been an absolute rock. It's scary to think of the sheer amount of points that de Gea is responsible for ensuring United kept, just from his miraculous saves alone.
Rewarded for his brilliant displays over the last few seasons, de Gea now enjoys the disctinction of being Spain's number one goalkeeper, displacing legendary Iker Casillas from the role. At just 25 and with keepers often playing until close to their 40s, de Gea will be around for a long, long time yet and would surprise nobody if he eventually went on to become the undisputed best keeper in the world.
