6. Super Bowl 44: Tracy Porter Picks Off Payton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBlvjtfpPAg This play may not be from as big of a name as the previous ones (and they'll be a couple more one-hit wonders as he hit the top five plays) but Tracy Porter slammed the door shut on the Indianapolis Colts in what had been a close, exciting game. After a hard-fought first half, the New Orleans Saints recovered a surprise onside kick to start the second half. The Saints had a seven point lead with five minutes and change left, though the Colts had the ever explosive Payton Manning and thus began the meticulous picking apart of the Saints defence. Until Tracy Porter made the play of his career. In one smooth motion, Porter stepped in front of a Manning pass and returned it seventy-four yards for a touchdown. Though there was three minutes left, the air had gone from the Colts' sails. The Saints have had a prolific offence ever since Drew Brees arrived, and 'Bountygate' means the defence will never quite be looked at the same way again, but it's nice to have a such a great play result from the Saints' struggle to prop up the community of an entire state post-Katrina and finally give them something to celebrate with the franchise's first Super Bowl title.
