Delivering a pin point cross straight to the head of Mark Hateley, Mark Walters watched in glee as his fellow Englishman headed home against Aberdeen. The game was played at Ibrox in May, 1991, and nobody there that day will ever forget the moment Rangers clinched '3 In A Row'. Walters played a huge part in the victory, his wing play proving decisive. It was Graeme Souness who brought the England internationalist to Ibrox in 1987. During his first appearance against Celtic, sections of the opposition support incredibly threw bananas at the man, racially abusing him and bringing shame on their club. It would have been understandable had Walters been turned off by this display, but he only seemed motivated. Scoring 32 times across over 100 matches for Rangers, Mark Walters was cherished at the time. Sadly, his legacy has faded, and seems to have been usurped somewhat by later wingers like Brian Laudrup. Whilst the Danish playmaker is fondly remembered, few speak of Walters in the same glowing terms. He definitely deserves more praise for his industry and skill.
