10 Boxing Matches That Will Make You An Instant Fan

5. Mike Tyson Vs Buster Douglas (11/02/90)

Having 'Iron' Mike Tyson on this list in a fight where he doesn't completely pulverise an opponent may seem strange to some. However, this fight will force any newbie into becoming an instant fan of boxing simply because of that prior knowledge of Tyson's dominance coming into his clash with Buster Douglas.

So, if you didn't know...Mike Tyson blistered through the Heavyweight division and made every one of his victims look like they were in the wrong sport throughout the mid to late 80's.

That's why what happened on the night of April 11, 1990 caused the world to take a sharp intake of breath.

Buster Douglas was enjoying a decent - if unspectacular - career and sat pretty with a 29-4-1 record before his scheduled Heavyweight title fight with Tyson that night.

Perhaps Tyson was distracted by outside controversy or the thought of facing upcoming number one contender Evander Holyfield (we'll get there) down the line. Either way, the Baddest Man on the Planet found himself on the receiving end of a lethal right which sent him flying onto his backside in the tenth round.

Tyson failed to recover and the most unlikely of Champions was crowned on the night, with Buster Douglas going down as one of the greatest giant killers in boxing history.

It doesn't matter how dominant and big you've become, the person opposite you always stands a punchers chance of winning and that's why we adore the world of professional boxing.
