While the 1990 World Cup was synonymous with fully grown men blubbing into their team-mates armpits, none would generate quite the amount of gratification as this one. Watching Diego Maradonas face burst like a water balloon at the culmination of the tournament was undoubtedly the best part of the final. The game itself between West Germany and Argentina was a bad-tempered and emphatically tedious game in which a man was sent off and the match was settled by a dubious penalty. The post-match scenes, however, majestically saw Maradonas face crumple into rolls of fat, salty tears as he bawled his eyes out in front of a billion people. He would later say he cried because of the injustice and unfairness of it all and not because of the loss. Having destroyed England with his feet as well as his hand at the previous World Cup, few England fans would have withheld a wry smile or caustic comment when watching karma catch up with him.
Chris James Peet says hello. His interests include hoping for the best and sitting in chairs. He much prefers moaning to counting his blessings and suffers fools gladly. He also likes to look out of the window and check what's in the fridge but he hates standing up, dripping taps and reality.
