It always seems somewhat bizarre when Scottish players move abroad. We've had Alan Hutton in Spain, Steven Fletcher in France and Derek Riordan in China. He was thought of as one of the SPL's better strikers when he turned down a new contract offer from Hibernian in April 2011. That rejection led to his release in the summer, with Chinese side Shaanxi Chan-Ba eager to bring him over to Asia. Though the fans apparently became fond of the Scottish international, a falling-out with the club's management led to the mutual termination of his contract just four months into his spell abroad. He then returned to Scotland, where his career never really took off again. A lesson well and truly learned.
