10 Hardest Ever Chelsea Players

4. Micky Droy

Never known for his footballing ability, the Highbury-born defender (above, right) was best remembered for his huge build and dominating presence. In a time when football was about skill and technique as much as it was for hard men, Droy was right at home. Standing at 6-foot-4, Droy towered over most players, and his monstrous build was equally unmatched. The centre half was difficult to get past, with his size and strength making it tricky to turn or muscle past. He was part of a squad that was relegated from the top division twice within a decade, yet was committed to the cause throughout. Droy remains a Chelsea legend for the grit and consistency he brought to side in difficult times. His commitment to the club was rewarded in 1978 when he was awarded Chelsea Player of the Year. Perhaps he would not have made the cut in a more successful Chelsea era, but he shone through during his time at the club. Micky Droy was a true great who€™s disruptive and defensive play gained him recognition and respect from teammates and opponents alike.
