10 Lessons Learned From UFC 177

8. Even The Prelims Lacked Lustre

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfFah1U5uVY Lorenz Larkin vs. Derek Brunson went to decision, and we barely looked up at the screen. Scott Jorgensen vs. the debuting Henry Cejudo was the most interesting fight on the preliminary card, but that bout was scrapped on Friday as well due to medical issues experienced by Cejudo - perhaps due to cutting weight, though that has not been confirmed. Ruan Potts vs. Anthony Hamilton was basically a snoozer. With Joe Soto moving to the main event, Anthony Birchak was removed from the card entirely, and in the end, there were only three preliminary fights, and the Fight Pass Prelims were scrapped entirely. If you're doing the math, that's an eight fight card - the thinnest card the UFC has put on in recent memory. Joe Rogan called it the haunted card, and he wasn't wrong, but it's really something the UFC brought on themselves by spreading themselves too thin.
