10 Most Controversial Motocross Riders Of All Time

2. Jason Lawrence

Jason Lawrence is a rider that is both loved and hated among the motocross community due to his rebellious actions and incredible talent. He is often labelled as €˜the last of a dying breed€™. There is no doubt that Lawrence has talent. He is a lites class Supercross champion, accomplished amateur, and successful outdoor rider in his short career, which is perhaps why the industry has expressed its frustration at his often outrageous actions. At the opening round of the 2007 AMA national series Lawrence was involved in an on track brawl with champion Ryan Villopoto. He was fined $7500 and put on probation for the remainder of the year. Things only escalated for Lawrence, and in the 2008 Supercross season, was banned for multiple races. More incidents followed. An on track altercation with Broc Hepler resulted in a suspended fine of $25,000, and in July of that season, was ordered to pay the full fine for €˜unacceptable behaviour detrimental to the sport.€™ Most notably, he appeared before a judge in 2009 charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of battery with serious bodily injury, and one count of mayhem. Since serving four months of his one year sentence, Lawrence has kept the sport guessing, making some attempted comebacks which have often turned out to be false promises.
