10 Most Expensive Man Utd Transfer Flops In History
4. Juan Sebastian Veron (£28 Million)
For anybody familiar with seeing Seba Veron tearing up Serie A during his pomp, it's painful to see the classy Argentinian midfielder included on this list.
The sad truth of the matter, though, is that Juan Sebastian Veron's £28 million move to Manchester United in 2001 was a failure on every level.
Bar a few impressive performances during some of Old Trafford's famed European nights, Veron just looked off the pace and lost when it came to Premier League outings.
This is a player, remember, who seemingly had every desirable attribute - his vision was magnificent, his touch and body shape were phenomenal, he was partial to a screamer, and he'd always put a shift in. For whatever reason, it just didn't happen for Veron at the Theatre of Dreams.
With the displays of those Sampdoria, Parma, and Lazio days seemingly behind him, The Little Witch's next move actually saw him stay in the Premier League. Heading to Chelsea for £13.5 million in 2003, it was hoped that the Argentina international's club career could be resurrected at Stamford Bridge.
It couldn't.
After leaving Chelsea, of course, Veron would return to his brilliant best and continue impressing in Italy and Argentina right up until he retired at boyhood club Estudiante in 2014.
When it comes to his time at Manchester Untied, however, Juan Sebastian Veron - and the £14.5 million loss the Red Devils took on him just two years after he signed - means he has to go down as a flop.
