10 NHL Records You Won't Believe
1. Most NHL Records Held
A record for holding records - so meta.
But for goodness sake, the man has a Wikipedia page just for his records!
“The Great One” pretty much holds every scoring title, as he has the most goals and assists in: the regular season, the playoffs, per-game-average, and all-time. With a career like that it’s not surprising to see that he also holds most the records for consecutive high scoring seasons (40-or-more up to 100-or-more) and the records for point-scoring streaks (fifty-one games).
Combined, Gretzky holds or shares sixty-one official NHL records. Wayne Gretzky never had a rookie season in the NHL, as he began his career in the World Hockey Association (WHA) which merged with the NHL when Gretzky was already established. If not for that, he would hold most of the rookie records as well.
There isn’t enough space in this article to get into all of Gretzky’s unofficial records, but be aware that there are hundreds of them. Just know that he won nine Hart Trophies, the NHL's most valuable player award, and eight of these were awarded in consecutive years from 1980–87. This means that Gretzky holds the record for most MVP awards of any player in North American professional sports.
Gretzky was undeniably, undoubtedly and undisputedly pretty decent at hockey.
