5. Home Run Baker

Who He Was: Played 1908 to 1922 for the Philadelphia Athletics and New York Yankees When we think of home runs, we most often think of the post-Babe Ruth days of baseball when the league leaders in round-trippers have 40 or 50 homers. But back in the early days of baseball, to hit the ball out of the park was a rare feat, yet it still happened from time to time. John Franklin €œHome Run€ Baker was a powerful third baseman who led the American League in the type of hit for which he was nicknamed in four consecutive seasons from 1911 to 1914, with season totals of 11, 10, 12, and 9. However, Baker was more than just a one-dimensional power hitter. He also had a .307 average and produced plenty of runs, including seasons with 130, 117, and 115 RBI. He won the World Series three times with Philadelphia.
