10 People You Didn’t Know Almost Managed Spurs

7. Murat Yakin

Arguably the most obscure entry on this list, Swiss coach Murat Yakin has claimed that he has spoken to Spurs about taking the managerial job in the past. The current boss of Spartak Moscow, the former boss of the likes of Basel, Luzer and Thun in his homeland and former Swiss international midfielder was linked to White Hart Lane following the departure of Andre Villas-Boas and, when asked if he was in line for any roles, he said this:
I had no contact with Lazio, but with Tottenham, yes.
The precedent for Swiss coaches at Spurs isn't great - we all remember the almost laughable tenure of the bizarre Christian Gross - so it was something of a surprise to hear this revelation, but Yakin has undoubtedly made the likes of Basel genuine threats in European competition during his reigns, so perhaps we shouldn't be overly shocked by the link.
