10 Players Who Exemplified What Glasgow Rangers Are All About
9. Andy Goram
It's perhaps rather strange to say someone with the nickname 'The Flying Pig' best exemplifies what a football team is all about. Thankfully, despite his rather unique moniker, Andy Goram was a titan between the posts for Rangers. An utterly essential part of the infamous '9 In A Row' squad of the 1990's, the goalkeeper was a favourite of fans at Ibrox for many years. A rough and ready kind of individual, Goram's charm came in his brutally honest demeanour. Andy was the kind of man you'd expect to see watching football in your local pub, if he wasn't playing it for a living. In fact, it wasn't abnormal to see the man affectionately (and simply) dubbed 'Goalie' sharing a few pints with fans after matches. If Davie Cooper was the perfect snapshot of a talented footballer who worked hard on his craft, Andy Goram was the kind of bad tempered battler who was perfect for his position. Signed by Walter Smith in 1991 to accommodate new league rules surrounding Scottish players, Goram replaced Englishman Chris Woods and became one of the greatest goalkeepers in Rangers history.
