Carlos Cuellar has enjoyed a strong relationship with the supporters of many of the clubs that he has represented and it was no different at Aston Villa.

After making 120 appearances in four seasons in the West Midlands, he announced that he would leave the club at the end of his contract and he described his final home fixture as "one of the saddest days".

Unfortunately for the Spaniard, it would become even sadder after failing to make a sustained impact at his new club Sunderland, who at the time were managed by former Villa boss Martin O'Neill. He featured 26 times during his first season but he was restricted to just four Premier League games in 2013-14.

He played his part in a North-East derby success over Newcastle United but his final two matches would see him put through his own net in a 1-0 defeat to Hull City and be hauled off during a 5-1 thrashing from Tottenham Hotspur.

After being released by the Black Cats, he would drop down to the Championship with Norwich City but 10 appearances later meant he would end his time in Great Britain and return to his homeland.
