10 Players Who Probably Regret Leaving Aston Villa
6. Julian Joachim
Julian Joachim ended the 2000-01 campaign out of the Aston Villa starting lineup but he still seemed to be a part of John Gregory's plans having scored eight goals in 25 games in all competitions.
However, the attacker was used as bait to tempt First Division side Coventry City into selling Mustapha Hadji to Villa and the move did not pay off for Joachim.
He scored just one goal in 18 games in all competitions in his first season and two in 11 in his second. He seemed a million miles away from playing his part in a squad competing in the top 10 of the Premier League table and to make matters worse, Hadji had been a flop at Villa Park.
His final six months at the Sky Blues were filled with goals but there was little chance of Joachim remaining with the club and he signed for recently-relegated Leeds United on a free transfer.
From the moment he left Villa, his career fizzled out. It seemed as though he was pushed out of the club rather than leaving of his own accord but as soon as he departed the top level, he never returned.
