Yes unless you have been living under a rock or are not English you might have missed that Andy Murray, Scotland€™s biggest tennis star tossed away 77 years of hurt/disappointment/inevitability of the last time British born player has won Wimbledon and took his second Grand Slam title. Now this is huge because for at least the last 20 years it has been a huge thing for the British tennis fans, media and TV to see a British guy win his home tournament.

To say the British public and media are crazy on this subject is a bit like saying John McEnroe was known for having a bit of a temper. The pressure Murray has been under for the past 5 years has been mental and a lesser man would have cracked under the pressure despite the fact he is probably the best player this country has ever produced not winning Wimbledon still wasn€™t good enough.

He was subjected to loads of jokes about not winning Wimbledon despite reaching 5 straight semi-finals and 2 final appearances which is amazingly consistent achievement but was never good enough for the hungry British public. Finally however it€™s happened and last Sunday Murray lifted up that old gold trophy after besting long-time friend Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

Now from being some Scottish loser he is a national hero with his other Grand Slam and gold medal and of course his massive Wimbledon win will make his name go down in history with British tennis fans. Amazingly after all the pressure he took trying to win Wimbledon his life afterwards will now be pretty easy as it€™s a shoe in he will be knighted one day .

I joke but I€™m very happy for Andy for winning it now he can get on with his career with that giant monkey off his back . I am being serious about the knighthood hell someone I was watching the final with reckons we will have a Murray Bank Holiday now after winning Wimbledon.

So I learnt a British player can win Wimbledon without the Rapture happening or without us having to change anyone€™s passport

Ian Newby is a average nerd living in the north of England, if given the chance he would spend all his life sat watching every single football match he possibly could before catching up on nerd happy TV shows then playing videos games all night, thankfully he doesn’t do that.
