10 Things John Terry Wants You To Forget

8. When He Was Accused Of Beating Up A Bouncer

To be clear: Terry went to court over this, but was never charged. He claimed that he was "ganged up on" and acting in self-defence, but the fact that he was involved at all is pretty bad. Terry was drinking with fellow footballers Jody Morris and Des Byrne in 2002 when a fight broke out with the door staff. Prosecutors claimed that Terry struck a bouncer with a bottle, leaving him with a bloodied eye. Terry denied this, and claimed he was acting in self-defence, but admitted that Byrne had started the fight, and that he had thrown a punch himself. Terry might have been the wronged party in this case, but it's a pretty sorry state of affairs to get yourself involved in a scuffle with nightclub bouncers. It's unlikely there wasn't some provocation, and that a fight couldn't have been avoided. Again, it's not the sort of behaviour you'd expect from a role model and future England captain.
