Going back to the very beginning, a young Peyton Manning graced the lineup of the Tennessee Volunteers college football team, though he wasn't a popular choice with the fans at first. First choice QB Jerry Colquitt was sidelined through injury, along with second choice Todd Helton - who went on to become an all-star MLB player - leaving the position open for a fight between freshmen Branndon Stewart and Manning. The latter was booed whenever it looked as though would struggle, meaning Stewart got the starting gig, though he transferred to Texas A&M, leaving Manning in the role. The rest is history.
