10 Things to Watch for on UFC on Fox

#5 - The Heir Apparent: Rory McDonald

GSP's anointed one is Rory MacDonald (14-1). Oui, Monsieur Georges has said so himself. He's a finisher (12). He's really young (22). He's got all the physical tools of speed, size, reach, accuracy, and versatility. He's got the eyes of a psychopath. And he takes fashion tips from Joseph Goebbells. Don't believe me? First, take a look at this. Now take a look this. Creepy. Rory is apart of this new breed of MMA fighter, the next generation of uber-talented, hyper-athletic fighters in the mold of Jon Jones, John Hathaway, and Michael McDonald. This influx of the next generation has been hypothesized for years as the kids that grew up watching the UFC stopped training in any single art and started as true mixed martial artists from day, seamlessly blending wrestling, striking, and submissions into a single, synthesized style. Das ist Rory. (Sorry, I can't help switching to German when I think about his fashion sense.) This is Rory. As fans of the sport, the arrival of these athletes is not only exciting, but rather immediately necessary. We need that whole new crop of stars to rise and fill the growing number of UFC cards on PPV, Fox, Fuel TV, FX, and more. Particularly when the PRIDE generation of superstars are quickly fading. Rory will probably destroy poor BJ, perhaps retiring another of the older generation of warriors only to usher in the age of the new.
