10 Things UFC Wants You To Forget About Matt Hughes

4. College Years

Much like in the aforementioned family life entry, Hughes€™ book paints an extremely negative picture of his seminal college years in his own words. Hughes gloats about how he cheated his way through the final stage of his education, barely having to attend any classes yet still achieving A-grades. The UFC €“ which always puts such a big emphasis on hard work and dedication €“ would certainly frown on this shameless taking of shortcuts. Worse still was Matt Hughes€™ revealing how he and his wrestling buddies would use their size, strength and combat techniques to terrorise the campus of Lincoln Junior High. Not only does Hughes gleefully reveal how they would bully other students, but they would also flood the dorms and tip over people€™s cars. This wanton destruction and complete disregard for the rules flies in the face of the UFC€™s promotion of the honour and discipline which the martial arts encompass. Though Hughes has surely matured somewhat since that stage in his life, the manner in which it is presented in his biography doesn€™t seem as guilt-ridden as you might expect.
