That will always be the main question for Guida following his horrific performance against Gray Maynard in 2012. We saw Guida running back and not engaging very often. He was fighting more like a counter-striker rather than the relentless wrestler that we've known him to be. We saw a return of his old-self in his dominant victory over Tatsuya Kawajiri. Guida actually scored his first ever knockdown in his career against Kawajiri. It was a vicious overhand right that set the tone for an impressive performance. We saw him control the slower Kawajiri and smother him against the cage on numerous occasions. Now he receives a more stern test against rising star Dennis Bermudez. How will Guida fare against a division 1 wrestler, who was ranked 22nd in the country in his weight class? Bermudez is also very shifty and explosive. Another common question seems to be if Guida's opponent can match his pace. That won't be the case here, as Bermudez has outstanding cardio. This will be a fight, where positioning and significant strikes will matter greatly. That is mainly why I'm expecting Guida to continue to fight like his old self and look to engage consistently. There is no avoiding Bermudez for an extended period of time. His style is too fast-paced and aggressive to where Guida will be pressured at will.
