This, inevitably, led McFarland to being named the best fighter never to become World Champion by Ring Record Book and Boxing Encyclopedia. The American would defeat Jimmy Britt, who had claimed to be World Champion, but the claim was disputed so Packey didn't walk away with any gold. He would also defeat future Welterweight Champion Jack Britton during his career. Nevertheless, it was a stellar run that very few have come close to.
