10 Ways To Make The London 2012 Olympics More Exciting

1. Pole Vault

Why it Sucks: Admittedly it€™s one of the more fun games, visually €“ for some reason I still think that pole is going to snap every time €“ but it€™s setting is just a little plain. You€™ve got your bar and your mat; doesn€™t it just seem a little lost inside that big ol€™ stadium? I say, with one little theme added, the pole vault could be a whole different beast. How to Make it More Exciting: Taking place around the city of London, the typical high bar set up is replaced by various historic Landmarks. Athletes can now be seen hurtling over the Trafalgar Square Lions, the Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens or even one of London€™s iconic red telephone boxes. It€™s not just an addition to the excitement factor; it€™s free publicity for the city and free tour for foreign athletes. Everyone€™s a winner. Potential Issues: Well, sometimes during the Pole Vault, athletes don€™t quite clear the bar and while this might only represent a dud round in the usual competition it could represent any number of heinous injuries when factoring in an immovable landmark. You€™d also need to double up on crowd control, as stray tourists could really interfere with the run up. Of course, we€™d never expect anything even remotely close to any of these things happening at the actual Olympics; the death toll would most likely be innumerable. But as the games get ready to happen on the 27th of this month, don€™t you just wish they could somehow get more exciting?
